What Is Wormwood in Revelation? 3rd Trumpet Explained
The Third Trumpet in Revelation 8:10–11 reveals the judgment called Wormwood, when a great star falls from heaven burning like a torch and strikes a third of the rivers and springs of water. As the waters become bitter, many die from drinking them, making this trumpet one of Revelation’s clearest warnings about poisoned water, widespread death, and the collapse of life-sustaining resources. The meaning of Wormwood is strengthened by Jeremiah’s repeated use of wormwood as judgment for corruption, false prophecy, and disobedience, while the later Third Bowl of Wrath shows this water judgment increasing from one-third of the waters to all rivers and springs becoming blood.

The imagery of the 3rd trumpet in Revelation 8:10–11, where a great star named Wormwood falls from the sky and turns a third of the waters bitter, is both striking and sobering.
